Wednesday’s Words

“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, … will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, … or to diminish something of their pains.” ~ Jeremy Bentham

Right or Wrong
Pondering all lifelong
Am I good, being bad
Who’s to say what comes from today
Returning back in some form
In some way
Isn’t it best to let the unrest fall
End this quest
Live, don’t waste it all
On beliefs, rules, traditions
Outside conditions
Who’s to say how we should live
And spend our time
Who we should honor
How we’re to spend each dime
Presumptions from others
Scorns from mothers
Church and state
Determining our fate
All in good faith
But may I suggest
Individually we just do our best
Forgiving all the rest
Imagine if
We would only
Mind our own druthers

“Stretching his hand up to reach the stars, too often man forgets the flowers at his feet.” ~ Jeremy Bentham
