“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” ~ Maya Angelou

Twas the week before Christmas …

He swerved and he swerved,
speaking not a word,
onward he pushed
up and over another curb.
Swiping this and that,
each gift and wrap,
while missing not one little Russian hat.
“Ha-ha!”, he guffawed,
while thieving the sweet little letters
written with hope and addressed to
dear old Santa Claus.
Whizzing here and there,
his foul stench mingling with
the interesting city air.
Oh, Cartier!
With each stop he snatched and he squealed,
his ugly face, normally a frown and congealed,
now held a filthy grin
that grew and grew.
As I sat in the back,
without even a snack,
I thought this can’t be good
but what could I do?
Man, I was hungry,
the day now turning night.
Then it dawned on me,
he’s not bashing, breaking, or graffitiing things.
No, he’s only taking any and all holiday decor,
while slithering from ceiling to floor.
Taking all in sight, including men’s cufflinks
and of course, all of the women’s lovely, glittery rings.
I say, he’s grabbing every last festive delight,
to my left and my …
right!
Including this cube, and so much more.
Not that we’re gonna miss it, but …
As that night became the next day,
(I slipped out of the cab, my door was unlocked by the way,
… so I went home and ate.)
merchants and shoppers produced and bought more.
The city didn’t sleep, why, it didn’t even miss a beat.

“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas … perhaps … means a little bit more.” ~ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Dr. Suess

Call on your angels
Come down to the city
Crowd around the big tree
All you strangers who know me
Bring your compassion
Your understanding
Lord how we need it
