“I’m not good at small talk. I’m really not. I’m not that great at any talk.” ~ Paul Rudd

Small talk …
When I don’t know what to say or if I didn’t really hear what was said … I just laugh.
I know I’m off the mark – a lot – when they get angry.
They could have said something like their pet turtle just died and then I said, “I know,” and laughed.
That’s where the AirPods come in …
I find, if I keep the pods in, not necessarily on, just in, I can quickly change the scene if necessary.
I laugh, they frown, I instantly point to the pods and whisper – “I’m on the phone”. Sometimes I forget that they’re not in my ears when I do that.
That’s when I foam at the mouth, creating an easy divergence.
I’m just not a good surface dweller. I love going deep or absolute silliness, but the in-between is a struggle.
So … how are you?

“When you have to do small talk, you know, ‘Hello, how are you?’ after that, I don’t know what to do. I go, ‘OK, then,’ and walk away.” ~ Naomi Osaka
