“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” ~ William Shakespeare

“I don’t have a bank account because I don’t know my mother’s maiden name.” ~ Paula Poundstone
Most people assume I’m a ‘Kimberly’.
It’s incredibly confusing to many when I reaffirm that, “Nope, I’m just Kim.”
Sometimes this goes on for a bit, “So you’re not even a Kimmy?”
“Uh, yes, actually, I forgot. I’m a Kimmy.”
But, no. I’m just Kim.
I’d like to think that my parents were deeply impacted by the fatal and horrifying children’s folktale of Tikki Tikki Tembo and vowed to save their children by choosing one-syllabled names.
Kimberly? = She didn’t make it, she drowned.
Kim? = Alive! Safe. No issues.
But alas, my parents had other reasons for blessing us with simple labels. My dad, in particular, didn’t want us dealing with the hassles of having such lengthy full names. And since our last name, Considine, is crazy long he decided to just keep our first names easy peasy. Give us kids a break. My dad was just getting rid of unnecessary hard work for us from the very beginning.
And prepping for potential morons.
“I wake up every morning at nine and grab for the morning paper. Then I look at the obituary page. If my name is not on it, I get up.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
“If Jesus was a Jew, how come he has a Mexican first name?” ~ Billy Connolly
A song to start the week: You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon on Spotify/YouTube.
” … He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says, “Amen and Hallelujah!”
If you’ll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al
Call me … “

Just Kim! Ha…cracked me up. 😂 You should tell them that people can’t pronounce your last name so your parents wanted to ensure they didn’t mispronounce (and misspell) your first name too. Trust me – been there and still doing it 🤦🏼♀️ – even my last name gets botched (Edwards, Ed-what?) Ridic

Yeah, when I lived in Austin, they couldn’t pronounce my first name either. “Now, Kilm”. KILM is my Texan first name. I think I like the sound of Stef Ed-what? for you… it has a nice ring. Ridic for sure but falls right off the tongue. I love you, Stef!
