“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.” ~ W.H. Auden

I Walk

I walk to the water
To stand alone
To find some peace, someplace
Removed, untouched
No trace
Of human influence
Prestige, importance, nor eminence
Insignificance
I call this time my own
A spot where I often go
This place that feels like home

I walk to the water
To stand alone
To take a pause, a break
A moment that’s mine, an open space
A setting to let go
To release my mind, where I find, a smile
It takes its place spreading across my face
While I watch the waves that come
Whether the sky provides rain, sleet, clouds, or sun
I watch each ripple
Interminably rolling by
One by one

I walk to the water
To stand alone
To suspend reality
To embed my head with beauty and awe
To charter a thought that fills my soul
When all is clear, it comes
A tranquil mentality
A sacred view reveals, mysteriousness
Surrounded in an aqua hue
A world that’s mine, to me, not unknown
This place within
I am known

I walk to the water
To stand alone
Yet when I arrive, foot tracks in front and by my side
Reveal my path is not concealed
Not mine, not alone
Others have come to stare at the water
I feel more than ever
Now alone and together
I am definitely at home
Never alone

“To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don’t grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead you relax, and float.” ~ Alan Watts
